The quirky and hip city full of personality and charm

Welcome to Hutto

Hutto is a quiet city located on the outskirts of Austin. This unique neighborhood is known as the “Hippo Capital of Texas.” Town legend tells the story of a hippo who escaped a circus train and made her home in town, causing the adoption of the hippo as the Hutto mascot. There are over 4,000 hippo statues, one of which being Henrietta, a hippo statue that weighs 14,000 pounds.

Hutto offers dining options and entertainment without having to leave town. There are beautiful trails and activities that are accessible year-round. Compared to Austin, the real estate in Hutto is just as nice but with a lower price tag. Star Ranch provides both a shopping center and golf club where residents spend the weekend with friends and family.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Nothing beats Tex-Mex cuisine in Texas! Residents enjoy a variety of Mexican food dishes and drinks at the Rio Grande Tex-Mex Restaurant. Other local dining options include the family-run restaurant Hippo Café. The Café not only offers breakfast in the morning but a variety of choices for dinner, too. When you’re searching for something sweet, stop in for dinner and a delectable pie at the Texan Café & Pie Shop. The Shop sells pies by the slice, or patrons can order a whole pie to go and enjoy at home.

Things to Do

Hutto has various options when it comes to fun activities around town. Hutto Lake Park spans 39 acres of land, offering boating activities on the lake, picnic sites, walking trails, and a basketball court. It is a place to enjoy bird watching while exploring the trail or relax on the lake while fishing. Similarly, the Cottonwood Trail sits alongside Cottonwood Creek and with a three-mile walking path connecting two additional parks.

Residents of Hutto enjoy the summer by relaxing and taking in the Hill Country views from a hot air balloon. You can spot the city skyline when you book a ride with Austin Aeronauts. If you love to play golf, you will enjoy The Golf Club at Star Ranch. The Club sits on a hilltop overlooking the 18-hole course and provides a peaceful place to hang out with friends while grabbing a drink or meal from the café.

An entertainment option you won’t find anywhere else is to go on a hippo hunt and see if you can find all the hippo statues in town. Henrietta sits in Hutto’s Old Town, the restored historic part of town. New hippo statues are being added frequently to Hutto’s collection.
